Lissa "Jo" McMahan (She/Her)
Reading Specialist
Serving Mountain Shadows since 2024
Lissa Jo taught public school in North Carolina for 30 years before trading the lush Appalachian Mountains for the majestic Rockies. During her tenure there, she served as county vice president for the North Carolina Association of Educators and mentored new teachers, as well as teaching self-contained grades one through five.
She spent 10 summers working as a language tutor at Camp Spring Creek, one of only three accredited camps for children with dyslexia in the US. During her time at CSC, she completed the classroom, associate, and certified Orton Gillingham training. After retiring from public school, Lissa Jo began tutoring one-on-one and is happy to now fulfill a dream of working in a Montessori school.
Lissa Jo loves to sing and also enjoys hiking and biking with her partner, Randy. She often travels back to NC to spend time with her daughter and two young grandchildren, Sierra and Jackson.
