Elementary I students Stephen Spangler and Augie Jones condensed a 23-page handwritten story to a 10-page screenplay, then a 3-act production about Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, Mace, Luke, Leia, and Yoda in the Clone Wars agains the Dark Side in a play performed by that class titled “The Jedi’s Hope.”
Entirely student written, produced, and directed, Stephen started writing the play last year and finished earlier this school year. It was Augie’s idea to turn the story into a play. Then the two got to work.
With a screenplay in hand and classmates eager to participate, play practice began following spring break with auditions then rehearsals.
“It was originally five scenes, then we cut it to three,” explained Augie.
The play was performed the week prior to the class leaving for their annual trip to Cal-Wood.
“Everyone worked really hard on their lines and knew them well,” concluded Stephen. “We’re happy with how it turned out!
